What does IAS mean?

Once I file a case in Supreme Court, how is the judge assigned?

Answer

IAS refers to the Individual Assignment System, which is used in Supreme and County courts in New York. The Individual Assignment System means that once a Request for Judicial Intervention form is filed, a case is assigned to a judge and will stay with that judge until the case is decided. A judge will not be assigned to a case until the Request for Judicial Intervention form has been filed and processed.
