Ask a Law Librarian: FAQ's about Legal Research

Why does the DIY Divorce program require my Social Security number?

Answer

A number of Domestic Relations Law sections require that Social Security numbers be submitted on official forms. Social Security numbers are required in order to comply with child support and maintenance orders. Vital statistics maintained by the New York Dept. of Health also require Social Security numbers.
