What is a power of attorney? What is a health care proxy? What is an advance care directive?
I have a power of attorney and want to end it. How do I do that?
Answer
LawHelp New York has excellent coverage of these questions, though some material may need updating. The New York State Attorney General has also posted guidance for advance directives.
Also, look at General Obligations Law, Art 5, title 15. The statutory short form for power of attorney is printed in General Obligations Law Section 1513. Termination and revocation procedure is described in General Obligations Law Section 1511. Public Access Law Libraries contain additional materials on these topics in books covering elder law.
