What are the open container laws in New York City and New York State?

 New York City prohibits drinking on the streets under  New York City Administrative Law 10-125 Consumption of alcohol on streets prohibited. For information on New York City summonses read the mysummons.nyc FAQ  and the brochure on paying by mail. Payment can also be done on-line.

Drinking in a motor vehicle is prohibited by Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1227 Consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages in certain motor vehicles.
